A message from the president

Fall 2005

Greetings Cornellians!

I am happy to report that the Cornell Club of Rhode Island and Bristol County, Massachusetts has had a very successful year and is strongly positioned for an extraordinary year ahead. As your new President, I will work with the entire Board to increase the Club’s membership and provide exciting and educational events and programs, and as you can see, the Board of Directors has some new members.

The Board of Directors thanks Julie Kallfelz ’89 for her many years of dedication and service as President of the Cornell Club of Rhode Island and Bristol County, Massachusetts. We look forward to Julie’s continued involvement in the Club’s activities and I will personally seek her guidance and wisdom on Club business.

We are very fortunate to have a talented and dedicated Vice President of Programming, Melissa Sokol ’95. As you can see in the Schedule of Events on the next page, Melissa has planned a number of exciting events for the upcoming year, including a pre-game event for Cornell Men’s Hockey at Brown. We owe Melissa a great deal of gratitude for all of her efforts. Jeffrey Koplik ’85, Treasurer, and Dianne Newman ’65, CAAAN Chair, have both served on the Board for many years, and their dedication to the Club has been tremendous. If you are interested in meeting with prospective students or representing Cornell at a college fair or in your local area, visit http://caaan.admissions.cornell.edu for more information on CAAAN or email Dianne Newman at dzn18@cs.com.

The Club has increased its membership significantly over the past year. Josh and Debbie Fredley ’00, Co-Vice Presidents of Membership, are working on innovative ways to continue this trend. On September 24th, we will host our first ever Membership Appreciation Event on the Newport Dinner Train. We encourage you to join the Club as only members can participate in this event. Please see inserted flyer for details!

The Club is also looking for additional Directors at-Large to serve on the Board. These Board positions are a great way to get involved, do not require much of your time, and are a great way to connect with alumni. Please let us know if you are interested in serving.

For those of you who are not Club members, we hope you will join; membership provides discounts to programs and exclusive invitations to special events. The Cornell Community is alive and well in Rhode Island and Bristol County, Massachusetts, and we hope to see you at upcoming events so that we can all forge new friendships and build upon old ones.

Sincerely,
Mitchell R. Edwards, JD ’99
